Aug. 9th, 2012 09:33 amNow she's downstairs and wanting a root dir float but that would require her to digitize herself again and it seems irresponsible to do that just for a tasty beverage.

Oct. 28th, 2011 12:54 pmShe's watched the video so many times it echos in her thoughts. Her uncle's desperation, her other self's struggle with the logic, Johnny's last stand.
The room shimmers through her tears.
She blinks furiously trying to clear her eyes so she can see. Focus on your projects, she thinks looking at her dry erase board.
The thoughts won't leave her alone.
Val gives up and just lets the tears fall.
OOC: Battle com
Oct. 10th, 2011 12:43 pmThis thread is for the in character fighting: the battle thread here.
This thread is for in character planning of the attack..
And this post is for out of character chatter or planning during the attack.
The Battle
Oct. 5th, 2011 07:53 amQuietly, Val says, "Everyone take a minute to get your bearings. I'll go take a peek at the situation."
As Val comes back from her peek at the army to give her sitrep the night turns to day in a bright flash of light some might read a nuclear blast, there are no sounds nor concussive waves though. Val's eyes widen and she looks to She-Hulk for confirmation.
If she's right, Johnny just did a nova burst and is going be in even more trouble now as that attack typically leaves him weak and nearly unconscious.
There is a round table in the center of the room with enough chairs for everyone. Food and drink (digital variations are present) are on a side table next to plates and cups. Floating above the table is a 3D holo-map showing a flat asteroid about the size of a couple football stadiums with several smaller asteroids floating about it. There is a red light blinking just off the center of the large rock island.
"So here's the landscape. Aunt Jen, you've had more experience with the Negative Zone. Would you mind explaining its nature for us?" Val asks once everyone is settled. All traces of her usual cheery self are gone, today Val is all business. At the head of the table there are also a few floating screens showing several different species of the insectoids and some stills of the character of N-Zone space.

So would you mind commenting with your availability and timezone? Also if you prefer planning occur via email or a LJ post in Val's journal. If you prefer email, please either list your email here or PM it to me via the contact info in Val's profile.
*Might I humbly suggest these two fine ladies meet before hand to sort through the "wait, you're from another universe" awkwardness, unless you want to play with that during combat...which could make for some interesting banter.
ETA: And can I just say I am not a fan of the new Rich Text window on Firefox completely ignoring my safety net of FF spell checker? It works in the HTML tab, why can't it work in the Rich Text?
Save Ferris...I mean Johnny
Sep. 13th, 2011 08:45 amWhen Val finds out about her uncle Johnny's death she is going to grieve for a bit but then go proactive and save him. After all what use are powers than can move you through time and space if you don't use them once in a while? But she's a smart girl. She knows she'll need some help, which she will find in the form of Ult. Ben Grimm (who I will bring in from his future when he is human shaped again). Still two against billions isn't very good odds. Good thing there's Milliways.
Basic plan is a simple snatch and grab. Fly in, or teleport in as the case may be, get to Johnny, teleport out.
The environment is the Negative Zone, which operates under it's own set of physics. Basically imagine space with an atmosphere and a little more gravity. The insectiod invaders are lead by Annihilus but are not his power level. The species varies depending on function (like Bees) and so there can be all sorts of different threats; from hulking and super strong to thin and fast. More about them here (in case you didn't click the Annihilation Wave link).
Weapons can be provided for those who need them. Val has a lot of Reed Richards, Doctor Doom and other Marvel tech schematics in her databases. Armor can be provided as well and at this point I'm imagining it will be something like Halo armor (with less enhanced reflexes and strength) if you wish your pup to get some. Other wise it can just be defensive with some means of maneuvering in a near zero-g atmosphere.
I would like about 5-6 people which we can split into teams by time zone and availability. I am in the Pacific and most reliably on during the day. I can not be on AIM reliably so would prefer any planning to be do via an LJ entry or emails as is preferred. That being said if the evening group wants to get together and do an AIM while they smash bugs, feel free. Just try to keep me in the loop via a summery email or lj comment.
I don't imagine this taking long as it is so simple a plot but these things can take a life of their own.
Sounds interesting? Leave a comment.
ETA: A basic, rough draft timeline for this; which will likely start the end of this week or beginning of next (Italicized items are meta, i.e. stuff I need to write):
1- I write and post an OOM dealing with the events of Johnny's death from 616 Ben's POV. Ben stops by briefly to leave a note for Val and a recording of the events as he's in no emotional state to really process his feeling (Gotta stay strong for the kids. Sorry I can't be there for yah Val). The recording happens to have a time stamp and from her armor's database, Val knows teh location of the N-Zone portal.
2- Val comes in and gets the note. Grieves for a bit, then decides to do something about it. At this time I'd bring Ult. Ben in from his future to meet Val (who will look like his Sue to him) and he ends up volunteering to help.
3- Start Pre-thread Snatch and Grab OOM in Val's journal so we can get the ball rolling.
4- Val posts a 'help wanted' sign or some such to get more help. Depending on who volunteers, she then is seen at the forge making weapons and armor as needed.
5- Post Snatch and Grab OOM upon completion. Post party's return to Milliways.
A needle in space
Dec. 6th, 2010 02:36 pmSpace is big and there's a lot of emptiness, finding a habitual planet is going to be tricky at best. She could Dance but to where? Any direction is as good as the other right?
"Let's save the random jumping for later."
Her armor's sensors could help but there is no way they'd have the range unless there was a ship right on top of her and she'd see it in that case. "Tachyon pulse?" she muses, catching sight of her dimensional viewer. "It could work like radar. But the signal wouldn't reach far enough, the array isn't large enough. Wait, the pulse had to have resonated with my force field! Otherwise I wouldn't have felt any feedback before."
She sets to work and within three hours she's modified the viewer to send out a tachyon pulse and to receive any signal that returns. She turns her focus to the force field she has active and alters its shape to function as a better antenna. "Here goes nothing," she thinks as she fires the first pulses and nearly giggles at the mental tickle it creates as it travels through the force field. "Now to wait."
Five minutes later she's twitching in boredom and decides to see if she can assemble a mini gravity engine with what parts she can spare from her armor and the dimensional viewer. After all she may need to maneuver around whatever the tachyon pulse finds.
It ends up taking twelve hours for the first pulse to return to her but the signal is hopeful, it bounced off of something. She reshapes the force field to create a more concentrated beam toward the direction the pulse came from and fires again. Time for some more paste.
Ten hours later and the signal returns and there is definitely something there. It is small, maybe a kilometer in length but not much else can be deduced. She sets her armor's computer to calculating the distance of the object and puts the finishing touches on the gravity engine. Then she Dances.
It's a ship of some kind. Something about it seem familiar but she can't place it. The ship's systems seem to be down and she's adrift. There are some minor power fluctuations but it's hard to pinpoint what from outside the hull. Val engages the gravity engine and does a flyby looking and hoping she'll recognize an access hatch. It's not until her third pass that she spots one and moves in. She hooks herself to the handrails with force fields to leave her hands free as she studies the door. There's some sort of writing that almost looks..."Kree? No, not quite but it's close. If that's the case this should be the manual access panel..." She tries to engage the panel but there doesn't seem to be enough power to open it. "That or I'm not reading this right."
She shakes her head slightly but not too much as she is in a zero gravity environment. "Now is not the time to start second guessing." She Checks her anchor points and then forms another field, a short spike over the knuckles of her right hand, and punches the panel. The panel cracks to reveal the mechanism to open the hatch and soon enough Val's inside the airlock and is closing the outer door. She leaves up her force field with her supply of oxygen just in case; after all who knows if the life support is active or if the people who own the ship even breath the same air as her.
"Hi honey, I'm home," she thinks as the inner airlock door opens to the gloomy interior of the ship. "I've really got to make a space suit when I get a chance."
"I'll eat in a minute," she thinks as she engages two force bubbles, one around the device and a greater around her and the device.
"Safety protocols established. Firing up for test number thirty four; forty megajoules and a frequency of twelve terahertz."
"Safety protocols established. Firing up for test number one hundred sixty nine. I've adapted the magnetic coils to output twelve gigajoules and I've given up on a singular frequency. I am now establishing a heterodyne, weaving the wave forms as the coils interact."
"Safety protocols established. Firing up for test number three hundred. I've added another set magnetic coils to boost the output to four zettajoules. If this doesn't work I'm going to see about weaving two separate heterodyne forms."
"Test number one thousand and four. Electrical output is now twelve zettajoules and I'm attempting to weave four different heterodyne forms but they are unstable. All efforts continue to collapse just as they seem to build. Oh shit..." she blurts as she realizes she forgot to set up her force fields. With a thought she raises the bubbles just as the wave form solidifies and forms a stable window. There is a flash of light and a blast of feedback along her force fields that nearly makes her pass out. She fights off the vertigo and the blackness only to realize the blackness isn't fading. She breaths deeply trying for calm as she feels weightless. Then she sees her environment and engages her armor.
"Low oxygen environment protocols!" she screams thankful that she got the bubble up (and the air it contained in her room) as she stares out into deep space.
Oops.....
Val Richards' reply to Val von Doom
Feb. 22nd, 2010 09:48 amI received your note and, after verifying your claims, must admit I still find this remarkable but then remarkable is par for our family isn't it?
I would be very interested to meet you face to face and perhaps continue this correspondence. In the interest of grammar I would like to refer to you as my sister if that would be alright with you?
One thing however, why did you ask uncle Ben to not tell anyone about you? I can't see any reason for this. I will not ask him or tell anyone back home until I have heard your answer.
Your sister,
Val
PS-This is so cool!
Millitimed to last week.
Jan. 15th, 2010 02:31 pmSlowly a smile spreads on her face and she reaches for her pen. In a careful and precise hand she writes, "Explore" before siting back to nod in satisfaction. She's living on the door step to countless realities, what could be more perfect?
Most often the simplest answers are the best. Still, if she's going to explore she will need a key to the many doors that come to this place. That usually means the patron who walks through the door but what if she could figure out what triggers the doors. Sitting bolt upright, she lips twitch to a crafty little smile.
Now there is an interesting thought.
Solstice Gifts for 2009
Jan. 6th, 2010 09:26 amFor Demeter: A poorly woven hand basket filled with freshly picked fruit and edelweiss. The basket is decorated with red and white yarn which has been braided.
Attached is a note which reads: In the country I grew up in we made these baskets near the end of winter to remind spring how much she is loved so she would come back. I want to thank you for making a lonely girl feel welcome and I hope you enjoy the fruit, Val.
For Kate Warner: A shoe box which is completely climate controlled. Attached is a note: I don't know what the climate is like where you are from but I know some shoes need extra care. Thank you for being a good friend and helping me adjust to this new place, Val.
Bill Pardy: A box of freshly baked apple strudel. Attached is a note reading: These are made using my Nana's recipe, I hope you like them. And don't worry, I had the kitchen make them. Thank you for understands my little temper tantrum and helping me understand it, Val.
Jordan Kennedy: A wooden Japanese puzzle box. Once she gets it open (assuming she doesn't lose patience and blast it), she'll find a pin-up calendar of Japanese models and the blueprints for the current model of Val's hoverboard. Attached is the note: Hope you enjoy the puzzle and the treasure. Thanks for being a good challenge and sounding board, Val.
Cal Chandler: A matching mug thermos set with a Chinese design theme. Attached is a note: Cal, haven't seen you in a while. I hope all is well. Thank you for being a friendly voice when I needed it, Val.
Enzo: A note which reads: Enzo, I have a couple of gifts for you. They are digital files in my armor's computer and I wasn't sure what format to give or how to give them to you to be honest. I want to thank you for being an awesome friend in this new life of mine, Val.
Sameth: A photobook of clockwork toys and a note attached which reads: Haven't seen you in a while. I hope all is well with you, Val
Weyland: A puzzle box similar to the wooden ones the Japanese prize but made of metal. The sides are smooth and unadorned. The seams of the sliding panels that make the puzzle are very small but visible upon close examination. One day Val will be able to work metal well enough that there will seem to be n seams but she is not there yet. Attached is a note which reads: Weyland, thank you for teaching me your craft and giving me a purpose. I hope what skills I have learned give you some pleasure, Val.
Nightime in the Library
Dec. 14th, 2009 12:03 pmNow the hour is late and lost in theoretical mathematics, Val has not only lost track of time, she hasn't even noticed the lack of other people.

Oct. 14th, 2009 12:39 pmThe collection of cars and other vehicles was quite impressive but it's the dirty and beat up aero-engined racing car with the license plate which reads "GEN11" that halts her in her tracks. She stands there frozen for a few minutes before wiping the tear from her cheek and striding off to get tools, rags and anything else she can think of. She pushes down the anger that rises at the state of the car and sets to work.
A few weeks ago...
Jul. 14th, 2009 09:53 amVal is hiking in the mountains when she spots a cave entrance. She traces the delta symbol at the mouth of the cave as she stands deciding if she feels like exploring the cave. "What the heck," she thinks and steps forward.
Val is thirsty but takes only small sips. She's finally accepted that she is lost in the maze of the tunnels. She's at a junction of four passages and she is sure she has been here before. "But there should only be three passages," she says exasperated.
"Help me," calls a small voice from the middle passage. The voice sounds far too much like her brother Franklin for Val's comfort and she doesn't hesitate. She activates her armor and runs into the passage.
Val takes a nibble of the single sandwich she brought for her afternoon hike. She laughs at the thought and says, "Yeah, just a short afternoon hike." She never found Franklin but he stopped calling about two hours ago.
The passages have been changing. When she entered this place, the walls were natural stone. Since then she has walked on roughly worked stone, brick, tile and cobblestone. She even thinks she may have seen concrete in one passage before being called away by Franklin's cries. The air has changed as well, from dry and hot to dusty and humid.
"This place is impossible!" she yells in frustration as she comes to yet another junction of passages that she is sure have too many openings. Convinced she is just going in circles she takes a different direction and hopes for the best.
Val is in darkness and is out of food and water. Her armor's water reclamation will keep her alive for at least another 36 hours but she is still feeling the beginning effects of dehydration. Her head aches and she feels intense vertigo any time she tries to use her powers.
She sits down to rest and doesn't even notice she is rocking herself.
Val stumbles through passages mumbling, "I am Valeria von Doom. My father is Victor von Doom and my mother is Susan von Doom, once Susan Richards. My father's mother is Cynthia von Doom and..."
She is repeating her heritage over and over as a litany to keep herself going and to keep the voices (her mother, her father, her brother, Coreen, Weyland, her kindergarten teacher) at bay. She doesn't realize she is tracing the delta symbol until she's done it for the tenth time. She shakes herself to better awareness and sees the modern looking doorway before her. She takes a deep breath, checks the power levels on her armor and steps through into darkness.
